Slight of hand in the media.

Posted on July 20, 2016

In today’s constantly connected world information about the events happening around us are easier than ever to get. On your phone, your computer, your tablet, and on your television information is constantly fed to us about what topics and situations should be important to us. World shaking and absolutely catastrophic news stories arise from out of no where stir us up and give us a cause to rally behind and then disappear as quickly as they appeared.

When the media in all its forms does everything it can to get you to look at the object in their right hand, you have to ask yourself what’s the left hand doing? If all the topics they raise can disappear so quickly were they ever all that important to begin with or was it slight of hand to distract you from the story three lines down in fine print and glossed over as quickly as possible?

Today’s technology allows to be more educated on subjects than we ever could have been in the past if we do our own research. However if all we do is devour and digest the information we fed without any further questions doesn’t it also make us easier to control?
